ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Splashlight Studios will host the first solo exhibition of photographer Calvin Tyler Scott at their headquarters in New York City. The next installment in Splashlight Studios’ Splashlight Spotlight event series, Calvin Tyler Scott presents a collection of genre-melding single photographs. Figures come and go, but empathy through vision remains constant in his work. In his debut solo exhibition, monolothic landscapes, incisive portraits, gritty street shots, and surreal fashion photography all come together under a single name.
With a background as a charcoal and ink-based surrealist artist, Calvin has embraced photography as a means of coping with the symptoms of Bipolar disorder, channeling manic and depressive episodes through stark compositions. Influenced by modernist traditions of photography, as well as mid-twentieth century portrait and fashion photography, Calvin’s work focuses on minimalist yet dramatic lighting and geometry, and their place in exploring his and the human condition.
